Milbert “Mel” Grenz

Memorial service for Mel Grenz will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at the Moose Lodge.

Milbert “Mel” Grenz 83, left us on July 27, 2018, due to respiratory problems he suffered over the past year.

Mel was born on Aug. 8, 1934, in Trail City, S.D. He lived and worked in different places in South Dakota until moving to Gillette, Wyo. in 1973. He worked jobs in construction until hiring on with Cundy Asphalt, where he worked for twenty years until his retirement in 1999.

He met his lifetime companion, Joyce Johnson, in 1990. They remained together for 28 years. Mel was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Joyce and Mel enjoyed being active members of both clubs. They also took great pleasure in trips to Wendover, Nev.,  and Deadwood, S.D., to satisfy his passion for gambling. Mel will be missed and remembered for his warm smile, the twinkle in his eye, and also his sense of humor and engaging conversations.

Mel is survived by his companion Joyce Johnson, son Lenny Carlson, sister Wilma Gregor, step-daughters Janice (Grady) Faris and Joanette (Alan) Wardell, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Justina (Hauss) Grenz and Joseph Grenz, brother Ben Grenz, sisters Freida Aman, Irene Goehring, and Lorraine Allis.
