GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Drugs, April 4, Cypress Circle, GPD
Officers arrested a 41-year-old woman for drug use and drug possession after responding to Cypress Circle for a suspicious activity report around 6:37 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. According to the report, the woman was with a 37-year-old man in a 2001 Buick that didn’t belong to them and that was reported stolen in Natrona County. Inside the vehicle, officers allegedly located a quarter-gram of methamphetamine, which the woman said was hers. She was also under the influence of a controlled substance and was subsequently taken into custody. Officers notified law enforcement in Natrona County about the vehicle.
Drugs, April 4, Highway 14-16, GPD
A 21-year-old man was cited for interference and drug possession after being pursued on foot into an apartment complex on Foothills Boulevard around 8:34 p.m., Wasson said. The man reportedly jumped out of a black Dodge Challenger that officers were following. After officers caught him, the man admitted to using a THC vape that they found on his person. Officers are still attempting to locate the Challenger, and the investigation is ongoing.
Suspicious activity, April 4, Dakota Court, GPD
Officers responded to Dakota Court to investigate an explosion report around 10:41 p.m., Wasson said. The investigation revealed an explosive, possibly a large firework, was set off inside a city-owned garbage rollout. The explosion caused hundreds of dollars in damage to the rollout and the siding of a residence. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, April 5, Camel Drive, GPD
Officers arrested a 22-year-old man for drug possession following a Camel Drive traffic stop around 1:42 a.m., Wasson said. The man was in a 2022 Dodge with an expired registration. During the stop, a drug dog indicated on the vehicle, and a search yielded less than a gram of THC wax as well as a homemade pipe with methamphetamine residue. The man was charged with two counts of drug possession and driving with expired registration.
Drugs, April 5, Boysen Creek Drive, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 33-year-old woman for two felony counts of third- or subsequent-offense drug possession after contacting her relating to an active arrest warrant on Boysen Creek Drive around 12:33 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. While speaking to the woman, deputies could smell marijuana and searched her vehicle. They located misdemeanor amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine; however, both charges were elevated to the felony level with this being her third or subsequent drug possession offense.
Aggravated assault, April 6, Warrior Road, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 38-year-old man for felony aggravated assault and battery for allegedly beating a 31-year-old woman unconscious with a cellphone on Warrior Road around 3:30 a.m., Reynolds said. The man was identified by the woman, who said she lost consciousness during the altercation, lost her vision and had swelling on her head afterward. She was taken to the hospital and was later released. The 38-year-old man admitted to striking the woman and was taken into custody.
Aggravated assault, April 6, East Redwood Street, GPD
Officers arrested a 15-year-old boy around 6:39 p.m. after he reportedly tried to hit his 38-year-old mother with a shovel, Wasson said. The mother told officers she wasn’t hit, but said the boy broke a window and an indoor camera. The damage was estimated at $600, and the boy was transported to the juvenile detention center. Charges are currently pending.
