GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, April 3, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Shoplifting, April 3, East Lakeway Road, GPD
Staff from a home improvement store on East Lakeway Road called the police at 4:12 p.m. to report a 36-year-old man for multiple shoplifting incidents, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. According to the report, the 36-year-old took $806 in merchandise on March 5 and a ladder on March 27, and attempted to leave with $1,085 in merchandise on April 3. Staff stopped the man from leaving during the most recent attempt. He identified himself but left before law enforcement arrived. Charges are currently pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
Crash, April 3, Hackathorn Lane, CCSO
Deputies and power company employees responded to Hackathorn Lane for a report of a vehicle crashing into electrical poles around 7:43 p.m., Sheriff Scott Matheny said. A 31-year-old man said the parking brake malfunctioned on his 1990 Ford pickup. The vehicle rolled into two poles and broke them in half. According to the report, the damage was estimated at $1,000, but no enforcement action was taken.
Crash, April 4, Highway 51, GPD
Officers responded to a reported slide-off on Highway 51 near the Port of Entry around 1:22 a.m., Wasson said. A 29-year-old woman reportedly lost control of her vehicle and entered the ditch. She struck her head, but officers couldn’t see any damage to the vehicle or property. Per the report, the woman admitted to drinking before the crash but was not arrested based on her performance during field sobriety tests. Offices cited her for traveling too fast for conditions, not wearing a seatbelt and having an open container of alcohol in her vehicle.
