GILLETTE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, is projecting 1–3 inches of new snow accumulation to fall over Gillette and surrounding areas tonight. The snow tonight should be the most significant of the entire week.
Before then, however, there is a chance of rain and snow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and rain after. Gillette should be somewhat cloudy today with a high of 42 degrees and 6–11 mph southern winds that will shift to the northwest and blow at 12–17 mph later today. Despite a 50% chance of accumulation during the day today, there should be no accumulated snow until later tonight.
Rain and snow will fall together before 8 p.m., at which point precipitation will turn to just snow. Tonight could get as low as 30 degrees, with windchill making it feel as cold as 19. Of course, snow piling up outside will make travel tonight additionally complicated. Over the course of Tuesday night, up to 3 inches of snow could pile up.
Snow will continue into Wednesday morning and end sometime before noon. Tomorrow could get as warm as 37 degrees with 13–18 mph winds making that feel closer to 18 degrees. Additional snow accumulation of less than an inch is possible for the area Wednesday.
Wednesday night, though, is not expecting very much rain or snow. With a low of just 25 degrees and calmer 5–11 mph winds, Wednesday night might be one of the calmer ones out of the entire week.
More snowy days that won’t get very warm continue to plague the forecast for the rest of the week. See the detailed forecast below for more information.
