GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, March 31, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Drugs, March 31, Highway 14-16, GPD

Officers arrested a 28-year-old woman for conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, drug possession and felony theft at a hotel on Highway 14-16 around 7:35 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The woman allegedly admitted to going to the hotel to purchase meth from an unidentified man and staying in a room with her boyfriend, a 34-year-old man. Searches of the woman’s room and vehicle yielded less than a gram of meth as well as over $1,000 in stolen tools.

Fraud, March 31, Alex Way, GPD

Wasson said a 35-year-old woman called the police at 9:17 a.m. to report falling victim to fraud on Alex Way. The woman said she attempted to purchase a couch on Facebook Marketplace and paid an unknown individual $1,500 through a banking app. There are no suspects, and the woman has contacted her back to close her account. The investigation is ongoing.

Fraud, March 31. East Lakeway Road, GPD

Officers responded to East Lakeway Road around 10:28 a.m. after a 25-year-old woman called to report that a customer had paid over $3,000 for a refrigerator and then disputed the transaction, Wasson said. According to the report, the customer used a credit card to pay over $3,000 for the refrigerator in early March and disputed the charge on March 18. The investigation is ongoing.

Fraud, March 31, Sierra Drive, GPD

A 20-year-old man called the police at 2:51 p.m. to report suspected check fraud on Sierra Drive, Wasson said. According to the report, the man met a woman online who sent a $15,000 check. She requested he deposit the check and send her money. The man’s bank, however, realized the check was fraudulent and prevented the transaction. The investigation is ongoing.

Fraud, March 31, Mahogany Circle, GPD

Wasson said a 48-year-old man called the police to report an Xbox that he sent to get repaired was returned to another address without his permission around 6:06 p.m. The man said he sent the Xbox to Microsoft in Texas. While the console was there, someone reportedly hacked his Microsoft account and changed the return address to an out-of-state address. The investigation is ongoing.

DWUI, March 31, Highway 59, GPD

Officers arrested a 38-year-old man for impaired driving after stopping him for speeding 71 mph in a 45 mph zone near Highway 59 and Patty Avenue around 10:56 p.m., Wasson said. The man displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested after failing to complete field sobriety tests. He was also found to have a suspended license and couldn’t provide proof of insurance. In addition to DWUI, the man was cited for DWUS, no insurance and speeding.
