LARAMIE, Wyo. — Every year, the best of the best in the sport of collegiate women’s basketball — only 20 players from across the entire country — get selected to appear in the Women’s College All-Star Game. This year, a Cowgirl will appear among those ranks.
Allyson Fertig, who has given the University of Wyoming some of the best basketball it’s seen in years and has had a historic college career with the school, was one of those 20 selected to appear on either Team Lieberman or Team Miller. She joins some of the biggest names in college basketball this year, mostly from Power 5 schools.
She was, deservedly, the Mountain West Conference’s Player of the Year. She led the league in points, rebounding, blocks and field goal percentage with 18.8, 11.6, 1.8 and 57.4%, respectively. That is the first time in the history of the entire conference that a player has achieved that.
In her final season with the Cowgirls, she also broke multiple all-time school records. She is second all-time in points with 1,860. Most impressively, perhaps, is the fact that she is the school’s historic leader in rebounds with 1,216.
The Women’s College All-Star Game will take place April 5 at 1 p.m. That weekend, she will also be participating in the all-star game’s draft combine. Just like football and men’s basketball, players participating in the combine will have one more chance to show off their stuff ahead of the WNBA Draft.
