LARAMIE, Wyo. — Wyoming head football coach Jay Sawvel and the Wyoming Cowboys officially opened spring practice on Tuesday inside War Memorial Stadium.

The first of 15 practices this spring saw the Cowboys hit the field in helmets and shorts, with the first day in full pads coming on Saturday.

“[It was] fun to get back out on the field, and we have a lot of work to do,” Sawvel said. “Our biggest focus is how we start plays in our alignment, assignment and where our eyes go along with footwork and hand placement, and we have improved on that. I like the effort of the group and we will watch the video and go to the next day.”

The Cowboys had 19 players appear in their first practice in the brown and gold on Tuesday. Of the 19 new players, 16 are transfers to the program from four levels of college football, as the group features an experienced core. Wyoming also saw three recent high school graduates join the team for the spring.
