GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, March 24, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Threats, March 24, Wright, CCSO

A 32-year-old woman in Wright called the sheriff’s office at 6:25 a.m. to report receiving a threatening phone call from an unknown individual using a blocked number, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The individual told the woman to stay on the line while he masturbated and when she declined, he threatened to sexually assault her sister. Shortly after, a 50-year-old woman in Wright called the sheriff’s office to report receiving a similar call from an individual using a blocked number. The investigation is ongoing.

Battery, March 24, North Gurley Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to the YES House School around 11:54 a.m. to investigate a battery report, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 14-year-old boy reportedly punched an 18-year-old man in the face. The 18-year-old defended himself and struck the 14-year-old. Officers cited the 14-year-old for assault and battery.

Drugs, March 24, East 3rd Street, CCSO

Deputies stopped a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer for a broken windshield at East 3rd Street and South Brooks Avenue, ultimately arresting a 30-year-old man for drug possession around 1:24 p.m., Reynolds said. According to the report, deputies deployed a drug dog, which indicated positively to the odor of a controlled substance. A search reportedly yielded a gram of suspected cocaine.

Drugs, March 24, East 2nd Street, GPD

Staff members of a car rental agency on East 2nd Street called the police at 1:44 p.m. to report finding drugs in a recently returned rental, Wasson said. According to the report, officers recovered three baggies of suspected marijuana, three empty THC wax containers, marijuana pipes, wax tools and a lighter. Staff members told officers an unknown man came to the establishment in search of the items and claimed they belonged to a family member. Officers learned the vehicle was most recently rented by a 40-year-old woman. When they contacted her, she denied knowledge of the items, and the investigation is ongoing.

Drugs, March 24, Highway 59, CCSO

A 25-year-old woman was arrested for drug possession following a Monday afternoon traffic stop on a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado near Highway 59 and Boxelder Road around 3:52 p.m., Reynolds said. The woman was a passenger in the vehicle, which deputies stopped for a broken windshield. She had a warrant for failing to appear in court and was found to have two loaded methamphetamine pipes containing less than 1 gram. She was ultimately taken into custody while a 31-year-old man received a warning.

Crash, March 24, Westover Road, GPD

Officers responded to Westover Road and Lee Esther Lane for a report of a single-vehicle rollover around 10:04 p.m., Wasson said. According to the report, a 23-year-old man was cited for DWUI, careless driving and failing to maintain a single lane after overturning his 2007 Toyota pickup. The man reportedly admitted to speeding before the crash and was impaired. Officers reportedly found several open containers of alcohol in the vehicle. The man potentially sustained a head injury in the crash and was left in the care of hospital staff.
