Gillette weather brings gusty winds, slight chance for rain

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Northeast Wyoming can expect light precipitation and gusty northwest winds today, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.

A front moving across the region will bring a chance of showers, primarily before 2 p.m. Temperatures are expected to reach a high near 53 degrees, with northwest winds gusting at up to 32 mph.

Tonight, partly cloudy skies are forecast with a low around 40 degrees. Winds will remain breezy, with gusts reaching 30 mph.

The NWS in Rapid City has highlighted an increased risk of fire weather conditions from Tuesday through Friday. Afternoon relative humidity levels are expected to drop into the 20s, with some areas potentially seeing levels in the teens on Thursday. While wind speeds are currently predicted to be marginal for critical fire weather, the possibility remains.

“Plan for elevated fire weather conditions Tuesday through Friday as minimum afternoon relative humidities dip into the 20s over parts of the area,” the weather service stated in its forecast discussion.

Temperatures are expected to climb throughout the week, with a high near 76 degrees forecast for Thursday. However, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated for the weekend, bringing potential for wetter conditions.

“Wetter weather should develop next weekend,” the NWS in Rapid City said.

Weekend forecasts indicate a chance of rain and snow showers, with cooler temperatures returning. Friday night’s forecast features likely rain showers before 3 a.m., followed by rain and snow showers. Saturday will also feature a chance of rain and snow showers that persists into the night.
