Fire weather concern driven by winds, low humidity in northeast Wyoming

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gusty winds and low relative humidity will combine to create elevated fire weather conditions throughout northeast Wyoming today.

The forecast from the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, said the combination will create a high to very high grassland fire danger.

Wind advisories are not in effect for the immediate morning hours, but residents can expect northwest winds gusting at 35–45 mph across the region, especially in areas northeast of the Black Hills.

A passing cold front is expected to bring a chance of light rain and snow showers, primarily in far-northeastern Wyoming, overnight into Saturday. Saturday will see a chance of rain and snow showers, with potential for light snow accumulations, particularly in the higher elevations of the Black Hills.

Sunday will remain windy, with strong northwest winds expected across the region. Gusts reaching 50–60 mph are possible.

Milder temperatures are expected next week. Monday may see a slight chance of rain showers, with high temperatures reaching the mid-50s. By Wednesday and Thursday, the region can expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-60s and low 70s, respectively.
