GILLETTE, Wyo. — A winter storm warning remains in effect for northern Campbell County and western Crook County until midnight Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.

The warning also applies to Weston and northeastern Crook counties. A winter weather advisory is in effect for southern Campbell County.

The NWS in Rapid City reports that a strong storm system is moving across the area, bringing moderate to heavy snow to portions of northeastern Wyoming, the Black Hills and western South Dakota. Snowfall is expected to continue through the morning, with the heaviest snow in the northern Black Hills, where some areas could see over a foot.

The storm prompted the city of Gillette to declare a Level 1 Snow Emergency, meaning all vehicles need to be removed from designated snow removal routes by 8 a.m. today.

The weather service predicts cooler temperatures Wednesday, with highs in the 30s and 40s, followed by a warming trend Thursday. However, unsettled weather is expected to return late in the week and over the weekend, with chances for additional precipitation and gusty northwest winds.
