GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Highway Patrol cited driver fatigue and inattention as contributing factors in a crash that resulted in two deaths early yesterday south of Gillette.
The driver of a Dodge Caravan was reportedly driving north along U.S. Highway 59 south of Gillette at 4:55 a.m. March 12 when he, according to the WHP, drifted over the road’s centerline and into a GMC Sierra truck. Both drivers were killed in the head-on collision.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation, which releases all reports of Wyoming road fatalities, identified the two fatalities as Wyoming residents Zebulon Goodrich and Luis Castaneda. The agency did not disclose which person was driving which vehicle.
Other possible contributing factors such as road conditions and the use of seat belts were deemed negligible to the outcome of the collision; the roads were clear and both parties were using their seat belts properly.
