C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, March 12

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, March 11, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Fraud, March 11, Cliff Davis Drive, GPD

Officers responded to the Wingate Hotel around 6:01 a.m. after an 18-year-old employee called to report suspected fraud, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The woman reportedly received a call from someone claiming to be the property owner who directed her to transfer $1,000 to a Bitcoin account, which she did. The investigation is ongoing.

Theft, March 11, Sierra Drive, GPD

Wasson said a 25-year-old woman called officers to Sierra Drive around 9:27 a.m. to report gasoline missing from her vehicle. According to the report, the woman suspected $150 in gasoline had been siphoned from her vehicle since January. The investigation is ongoing.

DWUI, March 11, Lakeway Road, GPD

Officers responded to Lakeway Road around 4:08 p.m. for a report of a potential drunk driver, Wasson said. A 72-year-old woman reported seeing a 2011 Chevrolet driving down the middle of the roadway and nearly colliding with a motorcyclist. Officers located the vehicle at a nearby bar and contacted a 73-year-old man. He could barely stand on his feet and was intoxicated. The man refused field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DWUI.

Drugs, March 11, Dogwood Avenue, GPD

Officers arrested a 44-year-old woman for drug possession following a K-9 indication on a Dogwood Avenue apartment around 4:34 p.m., Wasson said. Per the report, officers conducted a free-air sniff through the complex and contacted the woman after the indication. She consented to a search that yielded less than a gram of suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia with meth residue.

Crash, March 11, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 21-year-old woman was cited for improper lookout following a crash involving a motorized bicycle on South Douglas Highway around 4:38 p.m., Wasson said. The woman turned right from a parking lot onto northbound South Douglas Highway in a 2022 Volkswagen and failed to see a 14-year-old boy southbound on the sidewalk astride the bicycle. The boy complained of leg pain after the crash and was taken to the hospital by a family member.

Shoplifting, March 11, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers cited a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman for shoplifting at a department store on South Douglas Highway around 5:50 p.m., Wasson said. The pair were seen by staff concealing $142.26 in items and placing them in a backpack. Both were trespassed from the business.
