GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, March 10, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Crash, March 10, Highway 59, GPD

Officers cited a 19-year-old woman for following too closely after she reportedly crashed her vehicle into a work truck operated by a 56-year-old man at 4th Street and Highway 59 around 8:56 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The woman was traveling behind the work truck and didn’t notice it stop for a traffic signal. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage and no injuries.

Property destruction, March 10, East Shoshone Avenue, GPD

A 20-year-old man called the police at 9:11 a.m. to report someone tried to break into a car wash coin machine on East Shoshone Avenue, Wasson said. According to the report, the unknown suspect didn’t access the money inside the coin machine, and the damage was estimated at $1,000. The investigation is ongoing.

Escape, March 10, Raymond Street, CCSO

Volunteers of America staff called the sheriff’s office at 5:28 p.m. to report a 34-year-old man as an escapee, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was reportedly the subject of a local police report that stated he tried to break down a door on Gillette Avenue. The man’s boss at his place of employment told deputies the man left at 1:30 p.m. and never returned. The man was not allowed to be anywhere else and was supposed to have returned to the VOA facility at 6 p.m. but failed to do so. The investigation is ongoing.

Battery, March 10, West 2nd Street, GPD

Officers responded to a campground on West 2nd Street to investigate a battery report from a 60-year-old man around 9:24 p.m., Wasson said. The 60-year-old alleged a 44-year-old man hit him in the face and shoved him off of a set of stairs, resulting in pain. The 44-year-old man left before officers arrived, and the investigation is ongoing.
