GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Intoxication, March 7, South Gillette Avenue, GPD
Officers responded at around 5 p.m. to South Gillette Avenue, where they arrested a 61-year-old man for intoxication, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The man was obviously intoxicated when they arrived and he said he was staying at the Waystation. He expressed concern that they wouldn’t allow him back in given his level of intoxication. For his safety and inability to care for himself, officers ultimately took him into custody.
Theft from auto, March 7, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Wasson said a 16-year-old boy called the police around 7:33 p.m. to report his 2013 Chevrolet van had been broken into. The boy said someone broke into his locked vehicle and stole a speaker and a bag of Marshalls products. The speaker was valued at $170, and the investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, March 7, Georgia Circle, GPD
Officers responded to Georgia Circle around 11:52 p.m. to investigate a custody dispute, Wasson said. While there, a 21-year-old woman told them she failed a urinalysis, and they discovered around .4 grams of suspected cocaine in the residence. The woman was arrested for drug possession.
Drugs, March 8, Miller Avenue, GPD
A 39-year-old man was arrested for two counts of drug possession after officers pulled over a 2004 Honda for operating with a broken taillight near 3rd Street and Miller Avenue around 12:!5 a.m., Wasson said. During the stop, the man told officers the vehicle contained marijuana, and a subsequent search yielded a gram of marijuana. On the man, officers located two grams of methamphetamine and several used syringes.
Drugs, March 9, Burma Avenue, GPD
Officers arrested a 30-year-old man for impaired driving and drug possession following a March 9 traffic stop near Burma Avenue and Metz Drive around 3:16 a.m., Wasson said. The man was stopped for failing to use a turn signal in a 2011 GMC pickup. He was taken into custody for impaired driving after failing field sobriety tests and charged with drug possession after officers found a gram of cocaine in his pocket.
Negligent discharge, March 9, Desert Hills Circle, GPD
Officers responded to Desert Hills Circle to investigate reports of a bullet hole in an apartment around 7:30 a.m., Wasson said. According to the report, residents reported hearing a loud bang around 5:35 a.m. and discovered the bullet hole shortly before calling the police. The bullet originated from a connecting apartment, where officers contacted a 38-year-old man. He admitted to firing a 9mm handgun by accident when he grabbed it to investigate a noise. He said he was intoxicated and the gun discharged when he picked it up. Officers cited the man for discharging a firearm.
Theft, March 9, South Douglas Highway, GPD
A 37-year-old woman called the police at 12:52 p.m. to report two recently stolen laptops from a store on South Douglas Highway, Wasson said. The woman said the laptops were display models and provided a total approximate value of $2,000. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, March 9, Gurley Avenue, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 31-year-old man for drug possession after stopping a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu for driving without plates near 9th Street and Gurley Avenue around 9:27 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. According to the report, the 31-year-old was a passenger with a warrant. He told deputies there was methamphetamine in his backpack, and a subsequent search yielded 1.54 grams. The man was taken into custody while a 21-year-old woman was cited for driving under suspension.
Negligent discharge, March 9, Ptarmigan Avenue, GPD
A 22-year-old man reportedly shot himself in the hand with a 9mm handgun on Ptarmigan Avenue around 10 p.m., Wasson said. The round reportedly exited his residence and entered an open field. The man was transported to the hospital for treatment.
