Scott Clem will not pursue position as GOP chairman

GILLETTE, Wyo. — On Friday, Scott Clem announced he will not seek reelection as local GOP Chairman, choosing instead to run for Campbell County state committeeman.

According to a March 7 announcement, Clem said he made his decision upon learning current State Committeeman Greg Bennick would not be running for his position again.

“I’ve enjoyed serving as your Chairman of the CCGOP for the last two years, and I would like to continue to offer my service at our local and state level, albeit, in a different capacity,” Clem said in a statement.

Clem expressed his belief that there are many talented leaders in the local GOP, and allowing someone else to chair it could be a wonderful thing and an opportunity for more engagement.

“We could use some fresh faces, fresh ideas, and fresh energy,” Clem said. “At the same time, experience and continuity are also beneficial to the party, which is part of the reason I wish to continue my services, but as your State Committeeman.”

Clem said he intends to send his application separately out of a spirit of fairness to anyone else who may want to apply. At the appropriate time, it will be forwarded to the central committee for consideration.

Clem is currently serving on the Campbell County Board of Commissioners, with his term expiring in 2026.
