GILLETTE, Wyo. — Following a long Thursday with lots of snow, Friday is expected to feature a lot less precipitation. However, signs are beginning to suggest a new storm could be on its way next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, today’s high will be 31 degrees, which is actually 2 degrees cooler than yesterday before it began to snow. Following today, though, Gillette will begin warming back up incrementally every day. There is also only a 20% chance of precipitation today before 7 a.m.

Saturday will break past freezing again at 38 degrees, though winds will be faster than previous days and make it feel about 10 degrees at times. Saturday night’s low will be 26 degrees.

Sunday will see Gillette returning to the 40s. The high for the day will be 46 degrees, with the evening’s low, 34 degrees, not even falling below freezing.

The next few days will continue that warming trend. However, the NWS in Rapid City said in its forecast discussion that a new weather system might drop in on Gillette late next week.

“There is consistency with medium range solutions showing a large storm system affecting the central [continental United States] toward the end of the week. Will be keeping an eye on this, but it’s much too early to tell what impacts to the area there may be,” the NWS in Rapid City said.
