Thursday snow accumulation to exceed 2–4 inches

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Gillette area is guaranteed to see snow accumulation of up to a few inches over the next 24 hours as part of a system currently rolling through Wyoming. Things won’t start heating back up until over the weekend.

The incoming weather has prompted the city to issue a Snow Emergency Level I declaration.

Today’s high is 33 degrees — just above freezing — but will feel like 20 with windchills caused by 6–15 mph winds. The real highlight for Thursday, however, is the snow that will begin after 10 a.m. According to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, Gillette could see up to 2–4 inches of snow accumulation just during Thursday.

Thursday night, though, presents a 100% chance of snowfall. On top of the accumulation already guaranteed, the NWS in Rapid City reports that another 2–4 inches will fall late Thursday night.

Friday’s chances at precipitation will decrease to 30% By this weekend, daily highs will return to the 40s and chances at precipitation will curb.
