Crash, March 4, Force Road, GPD

Officers responded to Force Road and Dade Road to investigate a single-vehicle crash around 7:44 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 16-year-old boy was attempting to turn east onto Force Road from Dade Road when his 1996 GMC lost traction. The boy accelerated to get out of the intersection to avoid a crash. When his vehicle caught traction, it left the roadway south of Force Road and struck a state sign. The damage was estimated at over $1,000, with no injuries reported or citations issued.

Crash, March 4, Dove Road, GPD

A 52-year-old woman reportedly lost control of her vehicle and rolled it on Dove Road around 7:51 a.m., Wasson said. The woman was reportedly eastbound on Dove Road when she lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter a culvert, where it overturned. Emergency medical services evaluated the woman on the scene and officers cited her for driving too fast for the conditions.

Fraud, March 4, Hazelton Peak Road, CCSO

A 51-year-old woman on Hazelton Peak Road called the sheriff’s office at 4:05 p.m. to report falling victim to fraud, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman reportedly noticed 19 credit card transactions totaling nearly $4,000 from different cities in Arizona. When she reported the charges to her bank, she was informed the charges were made by an authorized user the woman had never heard of. The accounts were closed and the woman was instructed to file a law enforcement report. The sheriff’s office directed the woman to contact the FBI fraud department.

Breach of peace, March 4, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a department store on South Douglas Highway for a report of a man with a knife yelling at a woman around 5:01 p.m., Wasson said. A 38-year-old woman said she honked her horn at a man crossing the parking lot. The man turned around and gestured with his finger, at which point the woman parked and exited her vehicle to confront the man with pepper spray. The woman said the man had a knife in his hand but didn’t threaten anyone with it. The 24-year-old told officers he was upset that the woman honked at him and admitted to gesturing with his finger. He denied having a knife, and his 22-year-old wife supported his denial. The 24-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were both issued breach of peace citations. During the incident, officers learned the 24-year-old and 22-year-old were previously trespassed from the store and cited them both for trespassing.

Fraud, March 4, Highridge Circle, CCSO

An 80-year-old woman on Highridge Circle called the sheriff’s office around 6:45 p.m. to report falling victim to a scam, Reynolds said. The woman said she got a Facebook message from someone she believed was her niece who told her she could get a grant for her account worth thousands of dollars. A user claiming to be “Susan Miller” had the 80-year-old woman pay $1,500 through Zelle in exchange for $30,000 cash. The resident received a certificate with a confirmation number. Soon, the user contacted the woman again to inform her the delivery truck with her money had broken down and that she needed to pay an additional $400 to get the money that day. The woman did not send any more money and is currently out $1,500. The sheriff’s office directed her to contact Zelle to see if she could get her money back.
