(Dan Cepeda, Oil City File)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The likelihood of snow visiting Gillette will remain high throughout the rest of the week, especially today and Thursday. According to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, Thursday could see snow accumulation of up to 3 inches.

Most precipitation today in the area will fall before 10 a.m. Meanwhile, wind gusts as high as 38 mph mean the snow that has fallen will be hitching a ride in the form of blowing snow. The wind will also make today’s high of 30 degrees feel closer to the 10s and 20s. According to the NWS in Rapid City, windchill could make the outside temperature feel as low as 9 degrees.

Winds will calm somewhat in the evening, although the occasional rogue gust could blow as high as 22 mph. Tonight’s low is 18 degrees, with calmer winds only making it feel about 8 degrees cooler.

Wednesday will see the return of 40-degree weather, but not for long as Thursday might bring with it a whole new system and up to 3 inches of snow. The NWS in Rapid City is predicting a 60% chance of precipitation on Thursday all the way through late Thursday night.
