GILLETTE, Wyo. — An upcoming city project will improve drainage and maintenance access for a channel located near Arlington Court and Cottonwood Park, according to the City of Gillette.
The project will go before the Gillette City Council during its meeting on March 4, during which members will decide whether to approve spending approximately $200,000 to improve an Arlington Court drainage channel and place a new drainage structure west of Cottonwood Park, the city says.
Adding the additional drainage structures will help restrict flows exiting the ponds and should slow the flow of stormwater into Cottonwood Park, which has a significant amount of water during large rain events, according to the city.
In addition to the drainage improvements, the city will also look to improve access for cleaning and maintenance by upgrading the existing sidewalk and boulevard areas. A new ramp will be constructed to provide better access to the low-flow channel and allow maintenance crews to clean the entire channel more easily and safely.
Construction activity will be restricted to the channel area, the city says, adding that any impact to the neighboring properties will be minimal, with the project avoiding removing any existing sidewalls or retaining walls. Any impact will replaced in kind.
