Monday temps to remain above 50 degrees before winter weather takes effect late Monday night

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Although Gillette is technically out of the way of winter storm warnings taking effect to its south, the community should expect an increased chance of snow through the week after Monday.

As for today, relatively high temps — today’s high is 52 degrees — will persist alongside increasingly high winds through the afternoon. The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, said that the coming snow will end elevated fire risks.

Despite not falling under the winter weather advisory, Gillette will face some strong winter weather this coming week. The NWS in Rapid City highlighted blowing snow and high winds as being especially prevalent the next few days.

Although winds will pick up later, tonight should also be relatively mild compared to the incoming weather Tuesday, with just a chance of rain and snow before 9 p.m. By 2 a.m., however, winter weather conditions will really set in.

It doesn’t appear that milder weather will return to the Gillette area until Wednesday, when temps will peak back at around 45 degrees and snow chances diminish.
