GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Wyoming Highway Patrol lieutenant was involved in a major collision while tending to an earlier crash.

That’s according to a social media post from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, which stated that on Feb. 1, the lieutenant’s vehicle was struck in Carbon County on Interstate 80.

“The lieutenant was inside of his vehicle at the time of the crash and became trapped,” the post stated. “He was transported and released from the hospital. He is doing well and ready to get back to work!”

The post referenced Wyoming Statute 31-5-224 and warned drivers to “Slow Down, Move Over.”

“The statute states that a vehicle traveling on an interstate shall move into the furthest lane from the emergency vehicle,” the post explains. “It also states that when traveling on a two-lane road with a posted speed limit greater than forty-five miles per hour, the car SHALL slow to twenty miles per hour less than the posted speed limit. ”

A photo of the crash shows off the patrol car and what could have been a tragic situation.

“For the safety of everyone, please remember to SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER for all stopped emergency and maintenance vehicles!” the post concludes.
