LARAMIE, Wyo. — Allyson Fertig’s stellar season just keeps getting better. The 6-foot-4 center from Glendo, Wyoming, who’s been averaging a gnarly 19.1 points per game, has earned for herself a place on the NCAA’s Women’s College All-Star Game Midseason Watch List.
According to the University of Wyoming Athletics Department, Fertig was voted in by a panel of national basketball media members. If she makes the final cut, she’ll be playing April 5 in Tampa, Florida, and broadcast on EPSN2.
Currently, a little more than 60 players are on the list, but only 20 can compete. The seniors currently competing for a spot can are listed here.
Of the nearly 70 college seniors on the current list, Fertig is just one of two from the Mountain West conference. The other is Emma Ronsiek of Colorado State, whom Fertig handily out-performed in their first game against each other Jan. 25, though the Cowgirls would ultimately lose.
Fertig does have another chance to show why she should be the MW player to make the cut March 1, when the Cowgirls travel to Fort Collins for a rematch.
According to the NCAA website, Fertig is currently 32nd in the entire country for points per game. More impressively, though — and probably what presents the best case for her appearance on the All Star team — is her rebounding. She is currently 14th in the nation for total rebounds. She is also 34th for blocks per game.
She has a few more months to continue to shine, however. The Cowgirls are currently on a bye week, but will return this Saturday in San Diego to face the San Diego State Aztecs at 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
