GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Feb. 3, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Child neglect, Feb. 3, Ledoux Avenue, GPD
Officers were dispatched to Ledoux Avenue for a report of a cold and confused 3-year-old boy outside his apartment around 6:43 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Officers located the boy’s parents, a 43-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man, who said they had recently moved into the apartment and the boy was able to get out. Both parents were found to have active arrest warrants and were subsequently taken into custody. The boy was placed with a family member.
Property destruction, Feb. 3, Burma Avenue, GPD
Officers were dispatched to 6th Street and Burma Avenue after city staff called to report a damaged crosswalk control box around 9:58 a.m., Wasson said. Someone appeared to have tried to force their way into the box, resulting in $500 in damage. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
Theft, Feb. 3, Commerce Drive, GPD
A 36-year-old man called the police from Commerce Drive around 12:05 p.m. upon discovering a missing Snap-On scanning tool, Wasson said. The tool reportedly belonged to Precision Well Service and may have been stolen in the last nine months. The tool was valued at $3,700.
Drugs, Feb. 3, Green Avenue, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 40-year-old man for drug possession following a Feb. 3 traffic stop around 9:20 p.m. on Green Avenue, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was operating a black 2002 Chevrolet Silverado and failed to stop at a stop sign. During the stop, deputies could smell marijuana inside the vehicle and searched, ultimately locating a pipe and marijuana grinder.
