GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Campbell County High School student helped return a cold, lost child to his family on Monday.
That’s according to a social media post from the Gillette Police Department, which stated that GPD officers were dispatched to an apartment complex with a report of a lost boy wandering the complex.
“Officers found a 3-year-old boy curled up on the floor just inside the door of the apartment building,” the post states. “Because he was underdressed for the extreme cold conditions, the child was transported to Campbell County Health, where he was checked out and released with no injuries. The child’s family had just moved into the building; the child had left their apartment without being noticed and had gotten lost.”
According to the post, Campbell County High School student Ashlynn Wallett assisted in the process of getting the young boy help.
“While she was getting on the school bus, Ashlynn noticed the boy wandering around alone inside the foyer of the apartment building and immediately notified her bus driver, who then contacted GPD,” the post states.
Wallett was recognized by Corporal Trevor Johnson, who “presented her with a GPD Challenge Coin for her leadership.”
“The incident demonstrates the importance of the principle of ‘If you see something, say something,'” the post states. “Thank you, Ashlynn, for being a caring member of our community!”
