GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Drugs, Jan. 31, Maple Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to a residence on Maple Avenue for a report of a 19-year-old man smoking marijuana around 7:01 p.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. According to the report, the man was found smoking marijuana in a garage by his 45-year-old aunt. He gave consent for officers to search his room, where they found two vaping devices and a bag of tobacco. They also located a small amount of jarred marijuana. The 19-year-old was cited for possession of a controlled substance and possessing tobacco while under 21.
Drugs, Jan. 31, 1st Street, GPD
A 51-year-old woman was arrested for drug possession after officers allegedly located 11 grams of suspected methamphetamine in her clutch wallet around 11:02 p.m., Wasson said. Officers contacted the woman on an unrelated manner and learned she had a warrant for drug possession. A 57-year-old man was also contacted while he arrived to give the woman a ride in his 2001 Dodge Ram. Officers conducted a consent search of the man’s vehicle, where they found the woman’s wallet containing the meth.
Aggravated assault, Feb. 1, Beaver Drive, GPD
A 35-year-old woman was arrested for felony aggravated assault after allegedly attempting to hit a 39-year-old man with an impact driver and vacuum cleaner around 12:16 a.m., Wasson said. The two of them were reportedly arguing on Beaver Drive when the assault occurred; video allegedly showed the woman was the primary aggressor. She was charged with domestic violence battery and felony aggravated assault and battery.
DWUI, Feb. 1, Southern Drive, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 21-year-old woman after responding to a report of a man walking away from a vehicle on Southern Drive on Feb. 1, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man, 21, reportedly argued with the woman before walking away. Deputies located the man east of where the vehicle was located. The woman was found to have been drinking and was taken into custody after attempting field sobriety tests.
DWUI, Feb. 1, North Highway 14-16, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 21-year-old man for impaired driving after he was stopped for speeding in a 1998 GMC around 11:22 p.m., Reynolds said. According to the report, deputies saw the vehicle traveling 40 mph in a posted 30 mph zone. When they turned around to stop the vehicle, it accelerated to 80 mph before pulling over for a high-risk traffic stop at a fueling station. The driver and passenger were identified as 21-year-old men who had been consuming alcohol. After refusing field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody and cited for reckless driving.
Strangulation, Feb. 2, Decoy Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to Decoy Avenue after a 38-year-old woman called to report a physical altercation between an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man around 10:20 a.m., Wasson said. The altercation happened during an argument where the man knocked over a cup and mocked the woman while trying to break up with her. According to the report, the woman admitted to grabbing him by the neck for three seconds and shoving him into a wall. She said she held him by the neck as tight as she could before he pushed her down and struck her in the face. The man told officers the woman placed both of her hands around his neck and applied significant pressure before biting him on the back. He said he backhanded her with his right hand to defend himself. The man had injuries on his neck and his right hand as well as a bite mark on his back. The woman was evaluated by emergency medical personnel for injuries to her right eye and nose. She was ultimately arrested for felony strangulation of a household member while the man will be cited for domestic assault.
