GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Public Library is now accepting submissions for its K–12 Short Story and Poetry Contest. Submissions will be accepted through Feb. 14.
Entrants will be divided into grade groups K–3, 4–6 and 7–12. Children and teens will be able to give their entries to their teachers and school librarians by dropping them off at the Wright Branch Library or the CCPL children’s department or by emailing angela.stanley@ccpls.org.
Entries must follow one of three prompts:
- “The book fell to the floor…”
- “I opened the book, and the characters came to life…”
- “I couldn’t believe what I saw when I walked into the library today…”
According to contest rules, entries must begin with one of the three phrases. For K–6 writers, submissions must be one page maximum, typed or handwritten. For those in the 7–12 group, entries can be up to two pages long.
Cash prizes will be given to the top three entries for each age group. For the two younger groups, prizes of $30, $20 and $10 will go to the winners. Prizes for the 7–12 group will be $50, $25 and $15.
