C17 Crime Clips for Friday, Jan. 31

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 30, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Drugs, Jan. 30, Camel Drive, GPD

Officers responded to Campbell County High School around 7:53 a.m. to investigate a report of juveniles with vaping devices, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. According to the report, school faculty members were investigating an internal report of students piercing each other in a bathroom. They ultimately found a 15-year-old girl in possession of two vaping devices, one for nicotine and the other for THC. They also found a third vaping device on a 16-year-old girl. Both girls were cited for possessing nicotine while under 21 and the 15-year-old received an additional citation for drug possession.

Drugs, Jan. 30, Larch Street, GPD

Officers arrested a 61-year-old woman for drug use after she was reported for walking, yelling and talking to herself on Larch Street around 11 a.m., Wasson said. The woman reportedly walked through an active construction site; she was hallucinating and making nonsensical statements when officers arrived. The woman allegedly admitted to recent meth use and was taken into custody while officers responded to a report of her vehicle parked in a resident’s driveway a mile away. A police K-9 conducted a free-air sniff on the vehicle but did not indicate.

Theft, Jan. 30, South Gillette Avenue, GPD

A 57-year-old man called officers to South Gillette Avenue to report a stolen vehicle rim around 4:28 p.m., Wasson said. The man said he had a 20-inch Ford factory rim behind his residence and discovered it missing on Jan. 30. He estimated the rim was worth $500, and the investigation is ongoing.

Drugs, Jan. 30, Garner Lake Road, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 20-year-old woman for drug possession following a traffic stop on Garner Lake Road around 10:24 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman was stopped for a broken taillight and a drug dog indicated on the vehicle. A subsequent search yielded approximately 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a .380 caliber pistol. The firearm was logged for safekeeping while the woman was taken into custody.

Property destruction, Jan. 30, Vivian Street, GPD

A 30-year-old man was cited for property destruction after allegedly throwing his phone at a 27-year-old woman’s vehicle window on Vivian Street around 11:43 p.m., Wasson said. The two of them were reportedly arguing when a witness claimed the man hit the woman’s window. The man left before officers arrived but they located him on Watsabaugh Drive a short while later, where he admitted to throwing his phone and damaging the window. The woman valued the window at $400 and wanted officers to charge the man. He was subsequently cited for misdemeanor property destruction.
