C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, Jan. 30

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 29, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Hit-and-run, Jan. 29, Carey Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to Carey Avenue around 8:37 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run involving a 40-year-old man’s vehicle, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Vehicle parts store staff contacted officers after witnessing a pickup strike a stop sign and fire hydrant with a 45-foot flatbed trailer. The damage was estimated at $2,000, and a 40-year-old man was cited for improper lookout.

Theft, Jan. 29, Saunders Boulevard, GPD

A 48-year-old woman called the police from Thunder Basin High School around 10:07 a.m. after discovering her debit card was missing and possibly stolen, Wasson said. She reportedly observed unauthorized transactions in 2024 between Nov. 26 and Nov. 28. The investigation is ongoing.

Theft, Jan. 29, Overdale Drive, GPD

Officers responded to Overdale Drive after a 42-year-old woman called to report someone stole her tattoo guns around 12:20 p.m., Wasson said. The tattoo guns were allegedly removed from her home. No approximate value was included in the report, and the investigation is ongoing.

Harassment, Jan. 30, East 5th Street, GPD

A 36-year-old man was arrested outside the Gillette Police Department on East 5th Street for intoxication around 1:13 a.m., Wasson said. The man was the subject of a harassment report filed by a 44-year-old woman who said the man made inappropriate comments over text and refused to stop contacting her. When an officer contacted the man by phone, he allegedly made threatening statements directed at the officer around 11:21 p.m. Less than two hours later, the man was seen walking around the police department and told a responding sergeant he wanted to talk to the officer investigating the case. The man displayed signs of intoxication and was subsequently taken into custody.
