Report of possible Gillette kidnapping results in pursuit, arrest near Arvada

Gillette Police (City of Gillette)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A witness reporting a potential kidnapping yesterday resulted in a pursuit that ended near Arvada and a 21-year-old man’s arrest, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said Tuesday.

Local officers were alerted when a 28-year-old man called the police to report witnessing an altercation between the occupants of a Chevrolet passenger vehicle near Burma Avenue and Westover Road around 2:08 p.m. Jan. 27, Wasson said.

The witness claimed a female passenger, later identified as a 20-year-old, appeared to be signaling for help while she fought with the driver, a 21-year-old man. The 28-year-old followed the vehicle to Foothills Boulevard, where officers responded and attempted to stop it, per Wasson.

According to the report, the 21-year-old fled from officers, but not before they saw the registration and contacted the registered owner, a 53-year-old woman. She told officers a 20-year-old woman primarily operated the vehicle, a woman who was discovered missing during the investigation.

Wasson said a pursuit was initiated on Highway 14-16 near Arvada involving sheriff’s offices from Campbell, Johnson and Sheridan counties and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The pursuit ended with the 21-year-old being taken into custody at 5:30 p.m.

As of Jan. 28, the 21-year-old is in the custody of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, per Wasson, who said while the Gillette investigation is ongoing, he anticipates additional charges for the man in Campbell County.

The report did not specify whether the woman returned to Gillette following the incident, according to Wasson.
