C17 Crime Clips for Tuesday, Jan. 28

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 27, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Property destruction, Jan. 27, East Collins Road, GPD

Officers responded to East Collins Road around 4:44 p.m. to investigate a property destruction report, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 56-year-old woman told officers someone recently caused $4,000 in damage to her deck. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Theft, Jan. 27, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers were dispatched to a hotel on South Douglas Highway to investigate a suspected theft reported yesterday afternoon, Wasson said. Hotel staff told officers someone broke into a laundry machine and stole $100 in change at some point in the previous 48 hours. The damage to the machine was estimated at under $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.

Theft, Jan. 27, Highway 14-16, GPD

Staff members at a Mexican restaurant on Highway 14-16 called the police around 5:16 p.m. to report money being stolen from a tip jar, Wasson said. Staff members estimated around $40 was taken by an unidentified individual around 3 p.m. Jan. 27. The investigation is ongoing.

Crash, Jan. 27, Highway 59, GPD

Officers responded to the intersection of Highway 59 and Country Club Road for a report of a two-vehicle collision around 7:05 p.m., Wasson said. A 48-year-old woman was southbound on Highway 59 in a 2008 GMC. A 22-year-old woman northbound in a 2019 Nissan attempted to turn left in front of the older woman, resulting in a collision. The 48-year-old woman complained of neck and shoulder pain before being transported for treatment. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage and the 22-year-old woman was cited for failing to yield and driving without a license.

Trespassing, Jan. 27, South 4-J Road, GPD

Officers responded to the Waystation after staff called to report a 40-year-old man was refusing to leave around 7:29 p.m., Wasson said. The man had previously been trespassed from the facility and left before officers arrived. They located him near 2nd Street and Brooks Avenue, where he admitted to being at the Waystation. The man was cited for criminal trespass.
