GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Crash, Jan. 25, Camel Drive, GPD
Officers responded to Camel Drive to investigate reports of a vehicle colliding with a building while spinning in circles in a parking lot around 6:39 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. They found a damaged 2020 Lexus and damaged sidewalk when they arrived. A 26-year-old man emerged from one of the businesses and claimed vehicle ownership. He refused to provide identification documents despite multiple attempts by officers to reason with him. The man was ultimately arrested for interference, careless driving, no proof of insurance, expired registration and leaving the scene of the crash.
Drugs, Jan. 25, North Garner Lake Road, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 20-year-old man for possessing THC following a traffic stop on North Garner Lake Road around 8:19 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was stopped for speeding in a 2004 Pontiac. During the stop, a deputy could smell marijuana and conducted a search, locating two THC vape pens and two containers with THC residue.
DWUI, Jan. 25, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers were dispatched to a fueling station on South Douglas Highway around 8:31 p.m. for a report of an intoxicated woman fueling her vehicle, Wasson said. The report said the woman had parked awkwardly and was nearly falling over. She drove in circles after leaving the parking lot. Officers stopped her near 8th Street and Highway 59, where she was taken into custody for impaired driving after failing field sobriety tests.
Theft, Jan. 26, Cotton Avenue, CCSO
A 47-year-old man responded to the sheriff’s office around 4:27 p.m. to report multiple items missing from his residence on Cotton Avenue, Reynolds said. The man said he was recently incarcerated and believed his ex-roommate took the items while moving out. The items were collectively valued at over $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.
