GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 21, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Crash, Jan. 21, South 4-J Road, GPD
Officers were dispatched to a crash on South 4-J Road where a 47-year-old woman’s 2014 Ford was struck by a plow truck operated by a 32-year-old man, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Both drivers insisted they were in their own lane, and no citations were issued.
Crash, Jan. 21, 12th Street, GPD
A 16-year-old boy was cited for failing to yield after allegedly crashing his 2015 Buick into a 52-year-old woman’s 2020 Jeep on 12th Street around 9:42 a.m., Wasson said. The boy was exiting an apartment complex parking lot onto 12th and didn’t see the approaching Jeep. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage.
Fraud, Jan. 21, Longmont Street, GPD
Officers responded to Longmont Street around 12:23 p.m. after a 59-year-old man called to report falling victim to fraud, Wasson said. The man said he met a woman online and provided his information for her to open a bank account in his name. A check for $15,400 was deposited into the account and the man was directed to withdraw $13,400 to be distributed to multiple individuals through gift cards and MoneyGram. The man reportedly complied before realizing it was a scam. The investigation is ongoing.
Shoplifting, Jan. 21, Lakeway Road, GPD
Staff at a home improvement store on Lakeway Road called the police at 1:22 p.m. to report two individuals stole $381.60 in tools, electronics and other merchandise, Wasson said. The individuals were seen leaving in a 2006 Jeep associated with a 28-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. When officers contacted them, they allegedly admitted to the theft and returned some of the items. Both of them were cited for shoplifting and the man received an additional citation for driving under suspension.
Careless driving, Jan. 21, Highway 59, GPD
Officers cited a 22-year-old man for careless driving and a 25-year-old man for having an open container following a Highway 59 traffic stop around 11:26 p.m., Wasson said. The 22-year-old man was operating a GMC southbound on Highway 59 when he abruptly slowed and attempted to drift. The vehicle pulled into the parking lot of a nearby truck stop and the driver entered the business. According to the report, the 25-year-old man was found to be intoxicated and had an open container of alcohol with him. The 22-year-old man was not impaired.
