Gillette City Council awards $152K crack seal project

Gillette City Hall (County 17)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — On Tuesday, the Gillette City Council voted to award a $152,000 crack seal project to Z&Z Seal Coating spanning several subdivisions with a completion date expected in the fall of 2025.

The project will include crack-sealing streets as part of the city’s street maintenance program for locations near Campbell County Health, Sage Bluffs Subdivision, Sunnyside Addition, and Saunders Subdivision, according to the City of Gillette.

Per the city, four contractors including Z&Z Seal Coating Inc. submitted bids for the project. The bid amounts ranged from $311,182 at the high end to the winning bid of $151,814. The bid came in more than $30,000 under the engineer’s estimate of $182,018.

Each area included in the project was identified through the city’s PAVER software program. The crack seal maintenance technique is anticipated to protect the surfacing and extend its life by up to five years.

Crack sealing is when products fill individual pavement cracks to prevent water entry or other non-compressible substances like sand, dirt, rocks, or weeds. According to the city, it is typically used on block, reflection, transverse, and early-stage longitudinal cracks.

Per the city, crack sealing is an affordable way to fill in cracks in pavement thereby decreasing further crack deterioration and protecting the pavement structure from moisture damage.
