They found a 15-year-old girl was driving too fast for the conditions and couldn’t stop at an intersection while operating a 2022 Kia. She slid into the intersection and collided with a 36-year-old woman in a 2022 Dodge Ram. Two unidentified Kia passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at Campbell County Health. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage and the 15-year-old was cited for driving too fast for the road conditions.

Wasson said that a 29-year-old woman called the police at 2:32 p.m. upon discovering damage to her vehicle’s rear taillight. She believed the damage happened while her vehicle was parked at a bar on Highway 14-16 on Jan. 17 or Jan. 19. The damage was estimated at under $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.

Fraud, Jan. 20, Goldenrod Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to Goldenrod Avenue yesterday evening after a 57-year-old man called to report falling victim to a gift card fraud, Wasson said. The man said he was contacted by someone pretending to be someone he knew. The individual requested the man purchase five $200 gift cards to be distributed through a veteran’s organization that the man was a part of. The 57-year-old man purchased the cards and emailed the individual the card information before realizing he was being scammed. One of the cards was unused and the man managed to recoup some of the money used to buy the gift cards; however, he is still out $824.70. The investigation is ongoing.
