GILLETTE, Wyo. — Two men have been arrested in connection to a recent hotel incident where they allegedly made off with thousands of dollars in hotel property, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said Thursday.
According to Gillette Police Capt. Jason Marcus, the alleged theft occurred at the Red Lion Hotel on South Douglas Highway on Jan. 14. Hotel staff called the police to report a man who checked out late and took hotel property with him.
According to the report, a 35-year-old man identified on Jan. 16 as an Illinois resident took towels, pillows, blankets and other miscellaneous items with him in a 2025 Kia. Staff also reported another individual — identified as a 25-year-old man whose last known address was the Red Lion Hotel — was still in the room, prompting officers to search for him.
In the room, officers reportedly located 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine as well as several exotic reptiles and birds. The animals were taken to the City of Gillette Animal Shelter.
At the time of the original report, the two men had not been found, but as of Jan. 16 both men have been taken into custody, per Wasson.
