Winter weather advisory to last through Sunday afternoon

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Snowy and blustery conditions in the Gillette area have led the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, to declare a winter weather advisory, set to last until 11 a.m. Sunday.

Saturday is likely to feature patchy, blowing snow throughout the day, with up to 2 inches of accumulation possible. The NWS in Rapid City reports an 80% chance of snow.

Saturday is likely to see temperatures reach a high of about 31 degrees, though windchill values will fall to as low as 13. Windy conditions are also in the forecast, with northwest winds of 22–24 mph expected alongside gusts as high as 39 mph.

Snow will remain likely at night, as the NWS in Rapid City reports a 70% chance of snow continuing around midnight, with 1-3 more inches of accumulation possible. Temperatures after nightfall should drop to a low of around 16 degrees. Wind gusts of nearly 40 mph are possible.

Sunday forecasts show snow will again be likely, with the NWS in Rapid City predicting a 70% chance of snowfall before 9 a.m. The day is likely to be frigid, with a high of just 21 expected. Windchill values are likely to be just 4 degrees.
