GILLETTE, Wyo. – Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 9, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Family fight, Jan. 9, Little Powder River Road, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 38-year-old man for multiple felony counts of firearm possession, causing physical injury to a law enforcement officer and unlawful contact after responding to a physical altercation on Little Powder River Road around 5:55 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The altercation began when a 32-year-old woman hit the 38-year-old man with a 4-foot level because she was upset over alleged infidelity. When deputies arrived, the woman met them outside and said he had several firearms inside that he was disqualified from possessing. The man came outside and charged at deputies with a closed fist. He allegedly headbutted a deputy before being taken into custody. Inside the residence, deputies located six firearms in an unlocked closet, two of which he claimed; however, due to his having access to them, he was charged with possessing all six.

Theft, Jan. 9, Daredevil Avenue, CCSO

A 22-year-old man called the sheriff’s office at 12:18 p.m. to report unauthorized withdrawals from his checking account, Reynolds said. The man told deputies that a 22-year-old woman and her 31-year-old boyfriend had transferred $185 from his account into their respective Cash App accounts. The investigation is ongoing.

Drugs, Jan. 9, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a department store on South Douglas Highway around 3:14 p.m. to investigate reports of a woman under the influence of a toxic substance, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 38-year-old woman allegedly shoplifted a can of air duster that she huffed in a bathroom. She reportedly fainted and got sick before leaving the store, at which point she was confronted by store staff. Officers contacted her as she was entering a different store nearby. She was taken into custody for unlawful use of a toxic substance.
