GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 8, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Theft, Jan. 8, Sierra Circle, GPD

Officers contacted a 24-year-old man on Sierra Circle around 10:36 a.m. after discovering a recently recovered firearm originally belonged to him, Gillette Police Capt. Kelly Alger said. The firearm, a Smith and Wesson M&P 380, was recovered in a separate case where a man was charged with possessing multiple firearms. The 24-year-old man said he was also missing a Springfield XD9, but it wasn’t among the recovered firearms and was entered into NCIC as stolen.

Fraud, Jan. 8, West Boxelder Road, CCSO

A 50-year-old woman went to the sheriff’s office to report being targeted by fraud, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman said she received a happy birthday message on Facebook and clicked the provided link, which took her to a chat. Another user requested that she send $2,000 in Apple gift cards and said the cards were necessary for the woman to receive a new car. Deputies informed the woman that it was a scam.

Theft, Jan. 8, Darrell Street, GPD

Officers responded to Darrell Street around 4:51 p.m. after a 51-year-old woman called to report stolen medications, Alger said. The woman said she was missing 60 hydrocodone pills, 10 diazepam pills and eight tizanidine pills. She believed they were taken on Dec. 31, and the investigation is ongoing.

Child neglect, Jan. 8, Church Avenue, GPD

A 40-year-old man called officers to Church Avenue around 5:27 p.m., claiming a 9-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were at his home after being kicked out into the cold by their mother, a 30-year-old woman, Alger said. She, however, claimed the children were being watched by their grandmother, who allowed them to go play outside in the snow. Officers returned the children to their home, where they found three other children. The home was riddled with refuse and used diapers, prompting a response from the Wyoming Department of Family Services. Per a safety plan, all five children were allowed to go to a family member’s residence while their own home was cleaned.

Drugs, Jan. 8, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 59-year-old woman was arrested for drug use after officers responded to a South Douglas Highway department store around 8:58 p.m. to investigate reports of a drunk customer, Alger said. The 59-year-old woman couldn’t stand on her own and admitted to using methamphetamine before being taken into custody.
