GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 7, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Minor in possession, Jan. 7, Saunders Boulevard, GPD
Officers responded to Thunder Basin High School at 9:50 a.m. for a report of a student with a vaping device, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 14-year-old boy was reportedly walking to class when staff saw a vape fall out of his pocket. The boy was cited for possessing tobacco while under 21.
Crash, Jan. 7, Highway 59, GPD
A 50-year-old woman was cited for failing to maintain a single travel lane after she allegedly crashed her 1998 Chevrolet into a 35-year-old man’s 2016 Dodge Ram at Highway 59 and Boxelder Road around 2:41 p.m., Wasson said. The woman told officers she left her lane because the sun blinded her. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage and no injuries.
Drugs, Jan. 7, Providence Lane, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 20-year-old woman for felony and misdemeanor drug possession as well as possessing tobacco while under 21 following a stop near East 12th Street and Providence Lane around 8:15 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman had a warrant, and a subsequent search of her vehicle yielded a felony amount of methamphetamine in addition to baggies with trace amounts of marijuana and meth. Deputies also located tobacco products.
Hit-and-run, Jan. 7, 4-J Road, GPD
Officers responded to the Waystation around 10:47 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run, Wasson said. A 44-year-old woman told officers her Pontiac was stuck earlier in the day by an unknown vehicle. Video surveillance showed a 32-year-old man hit her vehicle with a 2003 Chevrolet before leaving the area without reporting a crash. The 32-year-old man was located and cited for hit-and-run.
