Wyoming inmate dies at Torrington correctional facility

Arthur Nelson, serving multiple sentences for aggravated homicide, dies at Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution; cause under investigation.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Wyoming inmate, Arthur Nelson (#35484), died Jan. 7 at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, according to the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

Nelson, 59, was convicted of five counts of aggravated homicide by vehicle and sentenced to 18–20 years for each count, to be served consecutively, according to a press release by WDOC.

He was also convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, receiving an additional eight to 10 years served consecutively. Nelson was credited with 591 days for time served before sentencing. He was sentenced in Carbon County by Judge Dawnessa Snyder.

Nelson was born in Greyville, Tennessee, on Feb. 2, 1965.

“Per WDOC policy an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. WDOC does not release protected health information,” the release stated.
