GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County is seeking a $275,852 grant for dust suppression on roads impacted by industrial development.

On Tuesday, commissioners approved the grant application for Campbell County Road & Bridge. The grant will fund dust suppression on 30.5 miles of heavily trafficked roads, including Turnercrest, Kingsbury, Iberlin and Clarkelen.

The project aims to reduce health and safety risks caused by dust from oil and gas exploration and development. These roads are also used by farmers, ranchers and recreationists, per the application documents.

Kevin Geis, director of Campbell County Road & Bridge, said the county has been participating in the program since 2008. The dust suppression work will be bid out. Geis said there’s typically two bidders, Dustbusters Enterprises Inc. and Desert Mountain Corporation.

“We’ll see who the winner is when we bid it,” Geis said.

The grant is part of the Fiscal Year 2025 Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Highway Administration. Campbell County will provide a 20%, or $68,963, match for the project.
