GILLETTE, Wyo. — Over the next several months, federal land managers intend to burn slash piles in Crook and Weston counties on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management.

According to the BLM, prescribed burning operations may continue through April 2025 as conditions permit. Each burn will be conducted following burn plans and is contingent on fuel moisture and weather meeting appropriate treatment conditions on site.

Smoke may be visible from the surrounding areas during burning operations and days following as slash materials are consumed, the BLM says, adding that slash materials come from commercial timber harvest and hazardous fuels reduction projects.

In Weston County, burning operations will occur across 1,000 acres spread throughout the Sherwood, Beaver Stockade and Skull Creek areas. In Crook County, burning will take place across 700 acres throughout the Cabin Creek, Diamond Seven, Proctor and Black Gulch areas.
