GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Fire Department released its 2024 Year in Review, revealing a year marked by unprecedented challenges and a significant increase in fire activity. The department responded to a record 3,242 calls, a 12.8% jump from 2023.
While medical responses remained the leading cause for calls at 44.6%, there was a dramatic rise in the number of acres burned in 2024. Firefighters tackled 145 wildfires and made 279 fire responses in which a whopping 117,296 acres reportedly burned. That’s up from the mere 3,591 acres burned in 2023.
“2024’s wildland fire season was unprecedented, with massive challenges met by our incredible team & community,” the department stated in its report.
The report highlighted the following key statistics:
- Average daily responses: 9
- Overlapping incidents: 1,584 (nearly half of all calls)
- Busiest day: Tuesday
- Busiest hour: 4–5 p.m.
The majority of calls originated within the City of Gillette (2,240), followed by unincorporated Campbell County (894) and the Town of Wright (108).
The department expressed gratitude for the community’s support and emphasized its commitment to continuous improvement in serving Campbell County.
“We’re responding to more calls than ever before, always striving to improve and serve Campbell County better,” the report concluded.
