GILLETTE, Wyo. — Two newly elected members will take their seats on the Gillette City Council during the first meeting of the year Tuesday night, according to the council’s agenda.
Per the agenda, Jack Clary and Chris Smith will both be sworn into office on Jan. 7 by Judge Wendy Bartlett. Smith will provide representation for the residents of Ward 1 while Clary will represent the citizens of Ward 2.
Clary and Smith both won their respective council bids during the 2024 general election, with Smith defeating opponent Darin Edmunds and Clary beating then-incumbent Billy Montgomery.
Smith has served on the Campbell County Rockpile Museum Board of Directors while also having served as chairman and vice chairman of the Campbell County GOP.
Clary’s board experience includes terms on the Campbell County Senior Center Board and the Campbell County Planning Commission.
In the first council meeting of the year, Clary and Smith will each cast votes alongside their fellow councilmembers on several annual items, including designating an official newspaper for 2025, approving bank depositors for city funds, deciding who to appoint as council president and reappointing Municipal Court judges and City Attorney Sean Brown.
