GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Jan. 2, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
REDDI, Jan. 2, East Boxelder Road, GPD
Officers responded to a woman’s report of a potential drunk driver in a parking lot on East Boxelder Road around 11 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. They had reportedly gotten into a verbal argument, during which the woman could smell alcohol on the 45-year-old man’s breath. The man was standing outside his vehicle when officers arrived. Upon learning he had driven to the parking lot, officers had the man perform field sobriety tests. Officers arrested him for DWUI and warned him for not having proof of insurance as well as driving under suspension.
Missing person, Jan. 2, Coal Dust Road, CCSO
A 32-year-old woman called the sheriff’s office at 4:03 p.m. to request a welfare check on her 60-year-old uncle, Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The man, identified as Brent Layman, recently went missing and his vehicle was towed with his belongings in Utah. According to the report, Layman could have been spotted at a local Starbucks. Deputies checked the coffee shop and the Waystation but couldn’t find him. Layman was described as a white man standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds. He has blue eyes, a full beard and balding gray hair.
Theft, Jan. 2, Little Powder River Road, CCSO
Matheny said that someone allegedly stole the license plate from a 70-year-old man’s vehicle on Little Powder River Road recently. The theft was reported at 5:25 p.m. Jan. 2. The man said he last saw the license plates on the vehicle on Jan. 1. The plate was entered into NCIC as stolen. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
