GILLETTE, Wyo. — An alleged drunk driver was charged with felonious restraint for driving recklessly while ignoring a passenger’s requests to take her home on New Year’s Eve, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said Thursday.
According to the report, 27-year-old Mark Kiser was operating a 2020 Chevrolet and sped past officers patrolling east on Warlow Drive on Dec. 31. When Kiser passed, officers could see a woman in the passenger seat waving her arms and yelling at them.
Officers stopped the vehicle and recognized Kiser from previous contacts earlier in the evening. They knew he was intoxicated and took him into custody after he failed field sobriety maneuvers. Additionally, officers located a THC vaping device.
The woman, a 21-year-old resident, told officers she and Kiser had gotten into an argument while he was driving her home. He accelerated to speeds that exceeded 100 mph and ignored traffic signals while driving recklessly through Gillette, per Wasson.
Officers ultimately charged Kiser with felonious restraint, DWUI and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, Wasson said.
