C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, Jan. 2

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Theft, Dec. 31, Pathfinder Circle, GPD

Officers responded to Pathfinder Circle to investigate a theft reported by a 33-year-old man around 2:55 p.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. According to the report, the man had a Christmas card delivered to his porch that went missing. The card was valued at $20, and the investigation is ongoing.

False ID, Dec. 31, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 22-year-old woman working at a bar on South Douglas Highway called the police at 4:58 p.m. to report a customer for presenting a suspicious identification card, Wasson said. The woman said the man presented a Montana identification while trying to purchase alcohol. He left after she called the police. Wasson said the picture on the ID did not match the man who used it, and the investigation is ongoing.

Eluding, Dec. 31, Estes Lane, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 43-year-old man for impaired driving after he allegedly continued driving following an attempted traffic stop near Estes Lane and East Warlow Drive around 10:25 p.m., Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The man was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that deputies could see swerving and failing to maintain its lane. The man eventually stopped on Deer Street, where deputies could see he had urinated in his pants. He was intoxicated and deputies took him into custody for DWUI.

Hit-and-run, Dec. 31, Reata Drive, GPD

A 44-year-old woman called the police to the CAM-PLEX Multi-Events Center to report someone struck her parked Dodge SUV shortly before 11:11 p.m., Wasson said. Someone allegedly struck the 2021 Dodge, causing over $1,000 in damage. The investigation is ongoing.

Minor in possession, Jan. 1, W. 4-J Road, CCSO

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for impaired driving around 1:25 a.m. near West 4-J Road and Knollwood Drive, Matheny said. The boy was operating a vehicle with three teenage girls riding as passengers. According to the report, the boy was intoxicated but his charge was amended to MIP. Deputies cited the three teenage girls for minor in possession.

DWUI, Jan. 1, North Highway 14-16, CCSO

Deputies cited a 16-year-old girl for consuming alcohol while under 21 and driving after hours after responding to a crash report on North Highway 14-16 around 1:42 a.m., Matheny said. A family member reportedly picked up the girl and deputies found her at a fueling station on Foothills Boulevard. The girl denied consuming alcohol but performed field sobriety tests and was not arrested. She displayed signs of intoxication, however, and her blood alcohol content was .045%.

Code enforcement, Jan. 1, Gillette Avenue, GPD

A 31-year-old man, the owner of a Nuevo Latino restaurant on South Gillette Avenue, was cited for dispensing after hours around 3:07 a.m., Wasson said. According to the report, officers checked on the establishment and around 30 patrons were still inside.

Negligent discharge, Jan. 1, Westhills Loop, GPD

Officers responded to Westhills Loop early yesterday morning to investigate reports of a gunshot around 5:19 a.m., Wasson said. The investigation revealed a 24-year-old man shot himself in the hip while manipulating a 9mm handgun. He was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services, and the investigation is ongoing.
