GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, Dec. 27, Jocelynn Avenue, CCSO
Deputies responded to the Jocelynn Avenue and Force Road area around noon for a report of workers stealing city water from a fire hydrant, Sheriff Scott Matheny said. City workers reportedly contacted the individuals but they claimed not to speak English. When deputies arrived, they spoke with one worker who spoke English and informed them the city wanted to talk to them to resolve the issue. The worker promised to contact the city.
Assault, Dec. 28, Country Club Road, GPD
Officers cited a 27-year-old woman for assault following a Country Club Road altercation around 12:08 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The woman allegedly fought with a 61-year-old woman, pulling her by the hair during an argument. The report did not specify why they were arguing.
Reckless driving, Dec. 28, Boxelder Road, GPD
A 21-year-old woman was cited for reckless driving and no registration after she allegedly used her vehicle to prevent her ex-boyfriend from leaving a parking lot on Boxelder Road around 1:19 p.m., Wasson said. The two of them were allegedly involved in a dispute, though the report didn’t include additional information about the disagreement.
Death, Dec. 29, Dakota Street, GPD
Officers responded to Dakota Street around 9:37 a.m. after a 74-year-old man was found deceased, Wasson said. The man was found by his 62-year-old roommate, and his death remains an active investigation. No foul play is suspected.
Assault, Dec. 29, Rock Road, CCSO
Deputies were dispatched to Rock Road around 12:37 p.m. to investigate a reported assault, Matheny said. According to the report, a 19-year-old woman allegedly tried to poke a 15-year-old girl in the eye and scratched the girl’s forehead in the process. She was allegedly upset at the girl, whom she accused of stealing her boyfriend. Deputies were unable to locate the 19-year-old woman, though they learned she had an active warrant for failing to pay her fine for driving without a license.
Animal bite, Dec. 29, Gordon Street, GPD
A 27-year-old woman went to the hospital around 5:18 p.m. after she and her puppy were attacked by another dog on Gordon Street, Wasson said. The woman told offices she was outside with her puppy when a medium-sized dog attacked them. The woman tried to save the puppy and the attacking dog latched onto her face and throat. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, Dec. 29, Gillette Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to the Montgomery Hotel around 7:34 p.m. to investigate a reported disturbance involving a 48-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, Wasson said. While speaking with them, officers observed the man displaying signs of recent drug use and could see paraphernalia in the room. They executed a search warrant, uncovering a small amount of meth, several packages with THC residue, two containers of THC wax and a container holding less than a gram of plant-form marijuana. The woman said they used marijuana just before the call. Both were arrested for using a controlled substance and drug possession.
Interference, Dec. 29, East Highway 51, CCSO
A 54-year-old man was arrested for interference after he allegedly fled from a traffic stop on Highway 51 around 11:58 p.m., Matheny said. The man was inside a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado that deputies stopped for a broken taillight. The driver, a 51-year-old man, also fled but returned to the vehicle. The 54-year-old man was located a short while later attempting to leave a nearby bar in another vehicle. He had a probation revocation warrant for felony forgery and was arrested for interference. The 51-year-old was cited for driving under suspension and failing to provide proof of insurance before being released.
